Molycorp
Receives Prestigious BLM Sustainable Development Award
September 20, 2005, Washington, D.C. – Officials
from Molycorp were in Washington D.C. last week to
receive the coveted Community Outreach and Economic
Security Award. This award, presented annually by
the Bureau of Land Management, honors those mining
operations that have made exemplary contributions
to the lands and the communities were the mine operates.
Our commitment to sustainable development is clearly
evident in our collaboration with the community,”
said Bill Sharrer, Vice President of Environmental
and Public Policy. “We believe that our best
practices have successfully integrated the needs of
a rural community with the operation of a private
company in order to ensure long-term economic stability.”
BLM Director Kathleen Clark presented Molycorp with
the award at the National Mining Association’s
Annual Conference. “This award is a tremendous
accomplishment for the employees of Molycorp,”
said Ray Cherniske, Manager, Administrative Services.
“We are all committed to ensuring that this
mine remains a positive part of the Northern Taos
region for the benefit of the community for the long-term.”
